How to have fun with your flatmates without leaving your flat

Looking for something to do with your flatmates from the comfort of your own home? From cooking competitions to art sessions, there’s a range of activities for you to try. All you need is an open mind, some creativity and a willingness to have a laugh with your flatmates.

Have a cook off

Cooking with your flatmates can be extremely fun! Aside from being productive, you could have a great time by teaching each other traditional recipes from your home countries or cities. It’s a great way to get to know your neighbours and their cultures better.

You could even have a cook off by creating a list of random ingredients and see who can cook the best meal out of them. Take it in turns with your flatmates, judging each other's dishes. The best meal is the winner.

Do some crafts

You could look for some fun ideas online to get your creative juices flowing – I would recommend YouTube or Pinterest in particular. It won’t take you long to find easy and inexpensive things to make at home with your flatmates. Once you’ve unleashed your creativity and made some funky designs, you could use them to decorate your flat and make it feel cosy.

You could even try model making. This might sound strange, but it’s actually a lot of fun and uses your imagination. Simply collect stuff from around the flat and build something using tape and string - it could be anything! Have a competition and see who makes the most obscure item with the best backstory.

Organise a movie night

A movie night (or even marathon) is a tried and tested way of having a good time without going out. Don’t worry, you can bond with your flatmates without having to talk – watching a movie together can be just as good as having a conversation. If you really want to, you could discuss the film after it’s finished.

There are tons of fun ways to have a good time without having to leave your flat. Just let your imagination run wild and try coming up with original twists on the already well-established ideas for a night in.

Come dine with your flatmates

Just like the famous TV show, Come Dine With Me, each of your flatmates takes it in turns to wine and dine the others. You can plan it however you want, but we’d recommend each person cooks at least two courses and provides some entertainment on their dedicated night.

At the end of each evening, everyone in the flat scores the experience and food. Once everyone has entertained through the week, a winner is announced and wins a prize or trophy

Have a games night

Organising a games night is the perfect way to create a fun atmosphere and bond with your flatmates. You could either play board games or video games – there are plenty of different options to explore and maybe even teach your friends some traditional games from your home country.
