Set your desk up properly

You’d be surprised how often a lack of prep can cause problems for your workspace. But having the right study setup will help you focus when studying. Here are a few quick ways to get started:

Keep your main desk space clean with only the essentials
Organise resources such as textbooks and notes in drawers
Keep a variety of tools and stationery on hand (cables, pens, markers etc.) You never know what you might need!
Make sure your monitor, mouse, keyboard and desk chair are at a comfortable height to prevent back, neck or wrist pain. A laptop riser can help with this.

Minimise distractions

Constant phone notifications, doomscrolling through social media and FOMO when you can hear your mates in the kitchen – it’s easy to get distracted when you sit down to get some work done. Minimising distractions will help you focus better when studying. Here are a few pointers:

Shut your door
Put your phone on airplane mode
Play a focus playlist on Spotify
Tell your flatmates you’re studying and ask them not to disturb you
Head to a quiet study pods or study room

Give yourself regular breaks

Going all in on studies for hours on end is never the right option for your mental health. Remember, a good balance comes from regular study sessions with breaks to give yourself a well-deserved rest. Make some tea, try meditation, socialise with friends, or take some scheduled time to decompress so you can remain centred and avoid burnout.
